serial #3855, .31 cal. percussion, 4" octagon barrel with a bright about excellent bore which shows only some very sparse, very light pitting near the breech. This is rather a nice second model Philadelphia Cooper. The barrel is an even mix of flaking original bright blue and a smooth brown patina underneath while the loading lever is primarily a tarnished gray case-hardened patina. The cylinder has toned primarily to brown with pewter undertones and some generous remnants of original blue. The frame is quite nice retaining perhaps 80% original color case-hardening toning somewhat to a mottled gray and blue with some minor brown oxidation staining, the hammer as well shows very good case colors on its sides while the spine has toned primarily to pewter. The triggerguard shows only traces of original silver plate within the guard and backstrap has faded primarily to a deep ocher patina. The one-piece walnut grip rates excellent with much original varnish and only very minor handling marks. The gun functions very well mechanically and all numbers are matching, the wedge is correctly un-numbered. (34591-33) {ANTIQUE}
